Our influence paper researched the effects of duration of catheter use on the incidence of CAUTI. After thoroughly reading the three articles, appraising and examining the evidence, it became clear that the researchers were not solely focusing on duration, more focused on inappropriate use and education. As a team, we learned of the importance of continued education after graduation and using evidenced based practice to stay up to date with current findings and provide better care to our patients. Although we couldn’t find any direct evidence based on the peer -reviewed articles we read through, there was some indirect evidence that lead us to the conclusion that the duration has some effect because it increases the risk of a complication of a urinary catheter, including CAUTI.
