Typically, people don’t really think much about metaphors however they are used so much in our daily lives. Not only do we use them in the academic setting, but in everyday conversations too. Metaphors are so helpful in so many ways, they help in the understanding of more complex thoughts, or they can even create a new outlook that wasn’t seen before. Also, metaphors are extremely important in the medical field. It can allow medical professionals to be better communicators with their patients, but also create a better understanding of a patient’s condition than just medical terminology would. However, some find it controversial to use warfare metaphors in the medical field because it could be seen in a motivating light, or a negative light. Metaphors are used everywhere, they are just constantly overlooked.

Medical terminology can be very difficult to grasp, especially when receiving news about a diagnosis. Doctors and other health care workers use metaphors to help patients understand their diagnosis instead of trying to understand the medical terminology. Metaphors also allow doctors and healthcare workers to become better communicators with their patients and eventually develop a trusting relationship with them. Patients begin to trust the healthcare workers who use metaphors because they take the time to really make sure that the patient understands what is happening in their body. Lastly, metaphors help the patient’s family to understand the diagnosis of their family member and trust the doctors and healthcare workers more because they trust them more. The family members trust them for the same reason as the patients do, they believe that the healthcare workers want to make sure that the patient and family members understand what is going on instead of trying to understand the medical terminology.

  1. I enjoy your second introduction more because I feel like you have a better path that you will follow to provide evidence. However, there isn’t a clear thesis statement, unless it hasn’t been written yet. You clearly describe the purpose of metaphors in the medical world so the reader understands what this essay may end up being about which is great!

  2. I think this a good Intro because it goes from the basics of when we use metaphors to specifically how people such a Physicians use them. I feel like you could honestly combine these two intros and then maybe generate a thesis of why people in the medical field are using metaphors incorrectly with the way we’re perceiving them.
