Science is often seen negatively because it is only factual; however, when subjects such as art are added to science, the knowledge gained can be very powerful. Take for example how in “Science is not your enemy, ” Steven Pinker, an author and psychology professor states that “science gets the empirical universe; religion gets the questions of moral meaning and value” (Pinker 5). So, if science and religion were integrated into each other, despite peoples beliefs, the abilities for learning would be immeasurable. Also, take for example in the text “the future of science…is art?” Jonah Lehrer, an American author and Columbia University graduate explains that “Science needs the arts. We need to find a place for the artist within the experimental process” (Lehrer 2). Just as Pinker thought, Lehrer believes that if art was integrated into the sciences, the new subject produced would be very powerful.

Personally, I believe that Yo-yo Ma, Lehrer and Pinker are all correct. The ability to integrate other subjects such as art or religion into science is very hard, but students can make connections that will help them learn, remember and understand the curriculum and information better. Art, or religion to science acts as a metaphor to the English language. It helps in understanding, remembering and discovering. Take for example how in “the future of science…is art?” Lehrer describes “the power of a metaphor is that it allows scientists imagine the abstract concept in concrete terms, so that they can grasp the implications of their mathematical equations” (Lehrer 5). Just as a metaphor does, art and religion adds  to science that help students to understand and allow them to discover more level to science that no one thought possible.
